I’m Linz and I’ve been married to my husband Nick for almost 35 years, we’ve two grown up sons - Harry and Angus and a crazy spaniel called Maple!
Long story, short - I never set out to become a florist, I trained as a nurse and went on to become a community midwife. The floristry started as a creative outlet during a career break but soon flourished into a thriving florist business which I named The White Horse Flower Company.
I’m an enthusiastic cook and love to forage for seasonal ingredients, I’m not much of a gardener, although I grow a few veggies alongside spring flowering bulbs and in the summer sweet peas. I’m never happier sitting around a table with friends and family eating delicious food!
To me arranging flowers is much like cooking: it’s all about using the best ingredients - what you do with these is where the magic happens!
On a serious level I think we all should take some responsibilty towards the urgent environmental issues of our timeand as a florist, I set an example by arranging flowers without the use of single-use plastic or floral foam. I up-cycle, recyle, repurpose and compost green waste; I even wrap bouquets in brown or unbleached paper - little things which if we did collectively, would make such a difference.
Alongside importing flowers (which allows me to run my business year-round), I buy many flowers right here in West Berkshire and Hampshire. Using local flowers and foliage enables me to follow the ebb and flow of the seasons in my work. I buy local mostly because the flowers embellish my work enormously, knowing they’re picked to order arriving in the studio within a day of growing in the field, adds to my enjoyment of being a florist no end.
A favourite part of my work is when clients first set eyes on their flowers; the look on their faces when ideas have been translated into reality is a sight to behold. I hope the galleries and those images and stories on Instagram inspire you to get in touch to see what I might create for you.
